Methodological Developments in Activity-travel Behavior Analysis

چکیده

Ten years ago I wrote a resource paper on “Discrete Choice Modeling for Transportation” for the 9 IATBR conference on the Gold Coast of Australia (Brownstone, 2001). While the scope of the resource paper for this conference is broader, it is still interesting to review the claims and recommendations made ten years ago to see how they have been received in our profession. The purpose of this paper is to stimulate discussion about methodological developments in travel behavior analysis. I will therefore concentrate on topics that I find relevant instead of trying to survey the large literature in this area.

Social interactions in transportation: analyzing groups and spatial networks

Travel demand is derived from activities that people have to or want to engage in. Work trips have been a primary concern for transportation researchers and an early focus of transportation modeling was on commuting behavior (Ben-Akiva and Lerman 1974; Train 1980). Subsequently, non-work activities, such as shopping or doctor visits, increasingly caught the attention of transportation analysts,...

Two Computational Process Models of Activity-travel Behavior

The ultimate goal of travel behavior analysis is to gain a full understanding of why people travel and to develop quantitative capabilities that facilitate the prediction of travel behavior. Toward this end, the individual’s travel behavior has been examined in connection with her activity engagement, with the recognition that travel demand is a derived demand. Studies from this viewpoint are r...

Recent Methodological Advances Relevant to Activity and Travel Behavior Analysis

This paper presents an overview of the considerable progress in modeling methodology that has been made in recent years and that is directly relevant to improved transportation policy analysis and travel demand forecasting. The overview is organized under three broad classes of models: discrete choice models, hazard-based duration models, and limited-dependent variable models. Because of the ob...

The Analysis of Urban Form Elements Effect on the Behaviour of the travel and to Develop low-carbon City Case Study: Tabriz Metropolitan

There is a wide body of literature indicating a strong link between urban form and carbon emissions in the transport sector, this is done through the impact of city form components on citizen’s travel behavior. Therefore, in urban low carbon development theory, the reduction of cavalry production through changes in urban form elements is considered. This paper investigates the effects of urban ...

An Analysis of the Preventive Behavior and Attitudes of International Travelers from South East Asia; the Kuala Lumpur Airport Survey

Introduction: There has been significant growth in international tourism from South-East Asia. Travel medicine services are still quite limited in this region. Few data exists on the knowledge, attitudes and practices of travelers from South-East Asia regarding the prevention of travel-related health risks. The present study aimed to characterize the travel t...
